Het Land van Onze Grootouders plot
This exciting road movie leads deep into Turkey in search of traces that still bear witness to the Armenian genocide. The main character is the young Turkish-Dutch Ugur Üngör, who is doing PhD research into the Armenian Genocide. In doing so, he comes across a book by Vahram Goekjian, who survived the genocide as a young man and wrote a book about it. Vahram's grandson, filmmaker Alexander Goekjian, travels with Üngör. Together they travel to the area where the Goekjian family lived for centuries. Director Kay Mastenbroek follows them with a second camera for the 'making of'. He mainly depicts the tensions raised by the two's questions among local authorities, but also within the Turkish-Armenian film team.
