Heart of Stone plot
Before 1960, the Weequahic area of Newark, New Jersey, was primarily a working-class enclave of the first generation of Jewish families. During this time, Weequahic High School had the highest graduation rate in America. But after 1967, the time of the Newark riots, the Jews disappeared and poor blacks took their place. Over the next thirty years, the culture of discipline disappeared and the area returned to a culture of crime. The Bloods and the Crips determined the streets and the schools. Until a new school principal arrived in 2001: Ron Stone negotiated a truce with the gangs and Weequahic High School became a Non-Violence zone.
