Gevangen in Schoonheid plot

Ernst van Leyden sees himself as a gifted painter. After training at (inter)national art academies, he ships his studio to the island of Urk to record fisherman's life. But the world is tempting, he is leaving the Netherlands. In Ascona he meets the beautiful German artist Karin Kluth. They marry and travel the world painting. Just before the outbreak of the Second World War, they take the boat to America with their son Ragnar.
