George Stevens: D-Day to Berlin plot
George Stevens: D-Day to Berlin is a documentary written, produced and narrated by George Stevens Jr. This documentary features war footage shot by his father George Stevens, a well-known Hollywood director. In his commentary, Stevens Jr. how his father was personally assigned by Eisenhower to lead a military film unit (of the Army Signal Corps) that would cover the war. However, Stevens also brought his own 16mm camera that he used for a personal diary. The director sent the Kodachrome film boxes home and after the war the color film ended up in a storage room. The boxes were not opened until after George Stevens's death. They turned out to contain a wealth of fascinating material. George Stevens Jr. made a selection for this documentary. The private color film is interspersed with the black-and-white images of the Stevens team that ended up in the cinema news.
