For a Place under the Heavens plot

The Pakistani street scene is increasingly dominated by veiled women. Filmmaker Sabiha Sumar is concerned about the growing influence of religion on everyday life and, in particular, on women's freedoms. She tries to understand what has happened to her country: in her youth it was still secular. She visits Muslim women to find out what drives them, but they seem hardly to reason. One of the women even caresses her son with the words: 'You're going to be a martyr later, aren't you'. But there are also women who will not let their rights be taken away, such as her three emancipated girlfriends.
