Finnish American Rag Rug Weavers plot

Between 1865 and 1920, Finnish immigrants brought traditional art to America, including woven and braided patchwork quilts. As a hallmark of Finnish ethnic culture, patchwork quilts and their makers hold a special place in the hearts of Finnish America. In this documentary, cultural sociologist and filmmaker Michael Loukinen takes the viewer to the homes and workrooms of traditional weavers in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He portrays the interwoven world of cultural beliefs, aesthetic practices and family history that each carpet represents.
