Finding Mercy plot
Director Robyn Paterson goes in search of her childhood friend Mercy, with whom she grew up in Zimbabwe. At the age of eight, the girls had the honor of welcoming Robert Mugabe to the airport as their new leader and placing a wreath of flowers around his neck. Robyn (white) and Mercy (black) symbolized the new independent state as so-called 'poster children'. But as peaceful and beautiful as that image looked, the reality under Mugabe was different. During his reign, thousands of opponents were imprisoned, tortured or murdered and two decades later Zimbabwe is a country traumatized by dictatorship and dangling economically above the abyss.
