Final Solution plot

In February 2002, a train carrying Hindu pilgrims was set on fire in Godhra, Gujarat, in western India, killing 59 passengers. In retaliation, Muslims were massacred and their homes, shops and mosques razed, often with the help of police. The resulting riots left more than a thousand people dead and many displaced. In response to international criticism, then-Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi organized a “rally of honor” to demonstrate his innocence and his party even exploited the tragedy to win over voters.
