Esmiralde: Zestien Jaar in Negen Scènes plot

Esmiralde is sixteen, explosive and desperate for love and support. She grew up with a lot of fighting and violence, and her parents are separated and pay little attention to her. She lives with her grandmother, who has kidney disease and is often tired. Esmiralde seems very mature, but sometimes she can't control herself and things get out of hand. When she stays away for the night, however, she notices that her grandmother and mother want to be there for her. Tenderness, anger and humor alternate in nine scenes, never deviating from Esmiralde's perspective. Every emotion, reaction and doubt of hers is portrayed from very close by. The only resting points are tranquil urban landscapes in which Esmiralde reflects on herself in voice-over.
