The devil, according to a Mexican legend, always claims one soul when a bridge is built somewhere. Otherwise she will collapse. From the devil to real life! Construction workers are building a gigantic bridge in Mexico City, the 'segundo piso': the Periférico highway is getting a second floor over a stretch of 10 kilometers. Here Rulfo films the men in their anything but cozy construction site while the traffic rages by. He registers their daily work, the dangers and the precarious working conditions, but also how they laugh, tell dirty jokes and stories. Take Natividad who guards the construction site at night, she could even put the devil to flight one night! Or 'El Romántico' who would love to have a girl but "doesn't find the time for it". Maybe he's just too shy. Augustín is the man who transports parts of the bridge - at night.
