Emoticons plot

Fourteen-year-old Saskia is bullied at school, Sanne publishes her poems on the internet, Samantha gives advice about love and sex on internet forums, Zineb chats with family in Algeria and Inge and Debbie email each other about their mother's illness. For all these girls, the internet is a safe place where they can be themselves and keep in touch with others, often followed much later by a 'real' encounter. Heddy Honigmann found them on the net and made contact. Their chat conversations are interspersed with images of their daily lives, in which the computer takes a central place.
