Der Busenfreund plot
The main character of Der Busenfreund is Renatus, a former math teacher. He is forty years old and lives with his mother in a desolate block of flats. Ever since his early childhood, he has been fascinated by women with large bosoms, which for him symbolize a kind of primordial mother. He never had such a good relationship with his own mother, she was too "bony" for him. The subject of Renatus's lust fantasy is the actress Senta Berger, for him she is everything a woman should be. Placed in front of a blackboard explaining the mathematical laws of sine and cosine (sine is bosom in Latin), Renatus sings about the curves of women and Senta Berger in particular. Filmmaker Ulrich Seidl allows the former teacher to talk freely about his obsessions and desires and edits these monologues between images from the daily life of his protagonist.
