On May 10, 1940, Germany invaded Belgium. A week later, on 17 May 1940, the German army took Leuven after days of fierce fighting. It was the beginning of a period of more than four years of occupation of the city. Years in which supporters and opponents of the occupiers fought for each other's lives and in which scarcity and hunger made life harder year after year. In the spring of 1944, when the Allies launched the offensive, redemption seemed near. But the price paid by the civilian population is particularly heavy…
