Concert of Wills: Making the Getty Center plot

1984 saw the go-ahead for one of the most prestigious construction projects of the century: the Getty Center for Modern Art in Los Angeles. Two years later, while the plans were still in their early stages, the filmmakers began capturing this process, which did not end until October 29, 1997, when the Getty Center was officially opened. Renowned architect Richard Meier, known for his sleek, white buildings, was engaged for the design. Although his ideas formed the basis for the construction, they were certainly not accepted without a fight. It soon became apparent that many wanted to exert their influence, such as the local residents, the money managers, the landscape architect, the museum director and the interior designer. They turned this gigantic project into a fascinating interplay of interests, ambition, conflict and concessions.
