Club Heaven plot
In the world's megacities, EDM clubs have grown into cathedrals of desire and spectacle. Club Heaven takes place in one of the most renowned clubs in China, number 19 on DJMag's global Top 100 list. With precise, observational imagery — from stacking champagne crates to the silent cleanup at sunrise — director Jona Honer captures both the ecstasy of the crowd and the weariness of those serving them.

Honer filmed wealthy guests at Play House, an Electronic Dance Music Club in Chengdu, China, without sound and using a reverse black-and-white filter. Most of the attention is focused on the staff, whom he captures with static film during (sometimes amusing) group conversations about anything and everything. The guests are rich, while the staff struggles to make ends meet and has to work very hard to meet the boss's demands. That point is easily made, so it is incomprehensible that Honer needs an hour and a half for it.
