Cinema Jenin: The Story of a Dream plot

"The story of a dream"

When director Marcus Vetter comes to Jenin in Palestine in 2007 for a story about Ismael, whose son was shot by an Israeli sniper, he learns that Jenin once had a cinema where people queued for Arab and international films. Palestine used to have a highly developed film industry, which collapsed in 1987 with the First Intifada. Together with Ismael and a few locals, Vetter conceives the idea of renovating the old cinema and breathing new life into it as a cultural and social meeting place. It will be a difficult project in which Vetter, who is the pivot in his story, encounters complicated cultural relationships and sentiments. While the new cinema should be a place for everyone, the venture has brought reactions that expose the painful relationship between Palestine and Israel.
