Churchills Verrat an Polen plot

On July 4, 1943, General Wladyslaw Eugeniusz Sikorski, commander of the Polish army, flew from the Middle East to London. His plane crashed near Gibraltar and Sikorski and the other passengers were killed in strange circumstances. Only the Czech pilot, Lieutenant Prchal, survived the accident. However, German propaganda doubted whether it was an accident: it was said that Sikorski had been eliminated by the Allies' secret service because of his anti-Russian ideas. It was suggested that he had been strangled or poisoned before or during the flight and that the aircraft's engine had been sabotaged. One thing is certain: his death suited several opponents.
