Chop Suey plot
In Chop Suey, photographer and filmmaker Bruce Weber introduces teenage wrestler Peter Johnson into his own world. Weber worked with Johnson for more than four years after discovering him and turning him into a highly paid fashion model for Ralph Lauren, Versace and Karl Lagerfeld. In Chop Suey, photographs and footage are used to depict Johnson's transformation from a beautiful young fellow into a homoerotic icon. The film is also an autobiographical work, exploring Weber's own career as a photographer and filmmaker, bringing together a complex collage of images, ideas, thoughts, persons and film material in a structure that reflects the mixture of ingredients indicated by the title.
