Children of the Prophet plot
The martyrdom in 680 AD of Imam Hossein, grandson of the prophet Mohammed, is commemorated in a grand manner by Shia Muslims every year. This film follows four diverse groups of Shiites in modern-day Tehran, during the ten-day mourning period Moharram (the first ten days of the first month of the Islamic calendar), which ends with commemorative festivities, the Ashura. “Children of the Prophet” follows the Moharram from the perspective of the average Tehran. Everyone seems to experience this ceremonial time in their own way. People prefer not to talk about politics, but it is crystal clear that in Tehran tradition conflicts with modernity.
