Chick Flick: The Miracle Mike Story plot
In September 1945, American farmer Lloyd Olson chopped off the head of a cockerel with an ax with the intention of eating it. When the rooster didn't die after being beheaded and was still walking around the next day, Lloyd took it to the vet. The vet thought for a moment and advised the farmer to feed his rooster by pouring a mixture of milk and grain through the larynx with a pipette. Mike, as the rooster had meanwhile been christened, survived that way. After an investigation at the University of Utah, it was found that the ax had chopped off about two-thirds of Mike's head. Beak, eyes, and comb had been neatly chopped off, but Mike's brain was still where it should be. A feather plug at the top of Mike's artery had prevented Mike from bleeding to death after his decapitation. With brains but without a head, Mike could live just fine. Eighteen months later, Mike died from a grain of wheat getting stuck in the larynx. The Mike the Headless Chicken Festival is now held annually in the town of Fruita, Colorado to commemorate Mike.
