The fact that director Hedy Honigmann dedicates the film to her mother, who instilled in her the love of dogs, who "instilled in her the love of dogs," explains why much of this documentary relies on the cuteness and affectionate nature of the dogs. service dogs that help people from different backgrounds through life. It is absolutely clear that the dogs have special gifts and prove to be able to do much more than you would think as a relative outsider. It is admirable how one of them helps a woman to dress or undress and also covers the owner before she goes to sleep. It is also special how another dog literally and figuratively guards the back of a heavily traumatized war veteran. The owners of the service dogs each explain why the dog is so important, but it's a pity that this documentary gives us a little insight into the lives of the people before they got their service dog. There is also no attention for the intensive training these dogs undergo before they are used as service dogs and since this film is undoubtedly aimed at fostering more sympathy for this charity, it is a pity that this aspect is completely ignored. Dog lovers can indulge themselves, because those dogs are so cute, but those hoping for an in-depth documentary have not come to the right place here.

I think we can all agree on this movie. The dogs do amazing things and the relationship with their owners is very special because it is based on a kind of mutual dependence, but the documentary doesn't really have to offer more than that.

Beautiful, sometimes moving documentary about six guide dogs and their owners. Not all stories are equally fascinating and some owners come off a bit poor in terms of time and scenes, but mostly the portraits about the close bond between humans and animals are impressively portrayed. And the six dogs are great.
