For young gays in Cameroon, pop idols like Rihanna and Lady Gaga are no less popular than they are in the West. But the tolerance towards gays that Gaga sings about in 'Born This Way' is just a fantasy for people like Cedric and Gertrude. They are gay and live in Cameroon, where their sexual orientation is considered a crime. The big city offers only limited security or anonymity. Yet for many gays and lesbians it is the only refuge. Coming out is a big taboo, completely against one's own family.
