Bajo Juárez: La Ciudad Devorando a Sus Hijas plot

In the Mexican city of Juárez, near the border with the United States, a striking number of young women have disappeared in recent years. Some remained registered as missing, but bodies have also been found several times, showing that the girls had been brutally murdered. This film looks for answers to the questions of what could have been the cause of these horrific crimes and how it is possible that most of these murders went unsolved and the perpetrators went unpunished. The directors speak to several members of grief-torn families, some of whom have been fighting for years for greater openness and more thorough investigation. Among them is the mother of the murdered Alejandra in 2001, eighteen years old and mother of two children. Two journalists also speak, who do not want to accept the vague statements of the police and government, and dig deeper into the backgrounds of the hundreds of disappearances. It turns out that innocent people have been arrested, tortured and forced to confess, and evidence has been tampered with. The investigators are encountering a disturbing amount of corruption, even reaching the upper echelons of the Mexican government.
