Agano ni Ikiru plot
Makoto Satô and his small crew spend 3 years in Kanose, a village on the Agano River in Niigata Prefecture. Kanose and nearby Yasuda are close to the Showa Electric Company factory that polluted the river by dumping mercury into it. The first time this happened, there was international outcry. However, this time, the second time, not much is being done to help the victims. Most of those affected by mercury poisoning are not compensated and people start to protest. Satô captures the resilience and humor of the farmers and fishermen from the region. We see the relationship between the crew and the community growing.
