Advertising Missionaries plot
A characteristic of capitalism is that it is always looking for consumers. “Advertising Missionaries” is a very extreme example of this law. The film follows a theater group of four who, employed by a marketing company, travels into the interior of Papua New Guinea to promote products such as Colgate, Coca-Cola, Omo and condoms by means of cheerful skits. The film follows the commercial missionaries in their confrontation with a population group that still lives in a very traditional way. There is no money economy, men and women live separately, and people live on what they grow. The introduction of the new products threatens to upset the balance within the tribe, as tension arises between the 'traditionalists' and 'modernists'.
