A Modern Roma Fairytale plot

In a closed community in Romania, the Kalderari Roma live according to centuries-old, strict traditions. Nicoleta (10), the granddaughter of the Roma king, dreams of learning to read so that she can decide her own future. But she too is expected to follow the path of her mother and aunt: drop out of school, prepare for an arranged marriage and move to her own palace. When Nicoleta begins to doubt the future mapped out for her, the lives of these three generations of women become increasingly intertwined.
