66 Kinos plot
Can something be a hobby if it's your job? Can something be work when you love it so much? These are questions that one of the cinema bosses in this documentary asks himself out loud. In conversation with enthusiastic employees, these rhetorical questions are answered in the affirmative in 66 Kinos, while cinemas large and small are reviewed. We wander past popcorn machines, through projection rooms, towards the silver screen. There is a dark side. To make ends meet, the turnover from the sale of food and drink is crucial. Are people switching from 'real' – 35mm – to digital projection? Should some of the halls accommodate Hollywood blockbusters? And even then there are fears that these measures are not enough. Will we still be in the same cinema in ten years' time? Or should we fundamentally redefine the cinema structure? It's a brain teaser, but the small business owner's hopes win.
