Vari plot
1894, Estonia, in the Russian Empire. Juhan Liiv is a struggling poet in Tartu, committed by his own family to a psychiatric institution suffering from the early stages of schizophrenia. He escapes and flees to his uncle and aunt. Upon arrival, Juhan discovers that his uncle Madjus was gruesomely murdered the previous night. A few days before his death, Madjus accidentally unearthed a pot of strange, ancient silver coins buried beneath his field. Now Madjus is dead, and the treasure has disappeared. Madjus's daughter, Mari, secretly tells Juhan that she knows who murdered her father: the devil. The village policeman, Peeter, is in charge of the murder investigation. Juhan believes the man Peeter arrested is innocent. Peeter accepts Juhan's help, and together they investigate the murder, while Juhan must also battle his own demons.
