Lou Ford is the only son of a teacher and a schoolteacher who has become sheriff against their wishes. With his thorough knowledge and friendly appearance, he knows how to navigate between the different groups within the community, and he has a relationship with a teacher. But Lou is haunted by his past, and when he has to chase a hooker out of town for an influential man because his son's hooked up with her, circumstances come together and something inside him bursts.
