Who was Charles Augustus Howell? He may now be an almost forgotten figure of the Victorian era, but back then he was a fascinating, morally dubious figure in London art circles. This biopic paints a detailed picture of Howell's Machiavellian ability to rise to the elite. For the sake of his reputation, he manipulated those around him to get his hands on their work and when that didn't work, he resorted to blackmail.
