Le Cap de l'Espérance plot

The place of business is the port of Sète, west of Marseille on the Gulf of Lyon, from where a lot of smuggling to Tangier in Morocco takes place. Enough unreliable individuals in Sète; one of them is the young lawyer Bob, disbarred from the bar association. He joins a gang of burglars and provides useful information about a wealthy merchant's safe, which contains many gold bars. The break-in does not go smoothly: they obtain the gold, but the trader is killed, while one of the burglars is injured and ends up in the hands of the police. He betrays the other burglars without batting an eyelid, and lets the woman he loves fall to save his own skin.
