Karla plot

"Evil has a beautiful face."

Paul Bernardo (Misha Collins) is already a serial rapist when Karla Homolka (Laura Prepon) first meets him. At first, however, she seems to have no idea what is hidden behind Paul's charming appearance. Until she loses herself in a series of events that lead to Paul abusing and even killing her sister. Karla realizes that she is terribly wrong and partly guilty, but out of fear for Paul she does not dare to do anything and the horrors do not stop there... Based on true events.

True crime.

I haven't seen much about the Homolka thing yet. I know they existed and obviously they weren't sane spirits roaming the globe, so I thought this movie would be a good opportunity to learn a little more. In the end, it is mainly just a narration of the actual events.

So I didn't get a lot of knowledge from this movie. So now I mainly know what they have been up to and that is quite gruesome and nasty, but the film does not explicitly show that. Still, a single implication is more than enough to make you realize what sick minds these were. Then it just feels out of place that Bender is trying to throw some sympathy through it, because that doesn't work for a meter.

The lack of really interesting roles kills this film. The two main characters should actually form the driving force of the film here, but that will not work. It's mainly some of the crimes they actually carry out that are curious enough to keep pushing the movie forward. So if you want to be shocked, the film is the right place for you, not really on a more educational level.

With a slightly better and less TV-like style I would have seen this as sufficient, but that is not really the case with Karla. Sometimes some interesting scenes on a psychological level, fortunately, but the focus on that is minimal. The roles are filled in nicely, but it's not a story that really sucks you in. Nice to have seen, but a film that is easier to forget than it wants to be.

I thought it was an impressive film, as I find it an interesting subject. I have already seen the story of Karla Homolka on several programs on 🆔. And I am very fascinated by it.

I thought Misha Collins played well. I understand that he is very sorry that he took part in this film, but he did really well. Laura also played a good Karla.
