After her father's suicide, Barbara Cummings returns from the Far East to London where she inherits his entire Sussex estate. Her father's business partner Howard Wainwright continues to run their business and a London orphanage run by one Hughes is allowed to use a wing of the mansion to house the underprivileged. A house servant tells Barbara that there is something important in the office safe, but she doesn't care about it. Some time later, however, Barbara begins to doubt whether her father's death was a suicide. She and her childhood friend Robert set out to investigate. In the safe of the office they find drugs...
