Incoherent, unentertaining, sleep-inducing documentary film. This movie misses the mark on everything. No story, no action, no good music score and certainly no good acting. The film doesn't grab you anywhere. It is incomprehensible that Travolta has lent himself to this. Half a star is still too much. Wasted time. Shame.

Too much Black Mass and not enough Goodfellas. Really wanted to give this film a chance (despite the negative reception) because I'm a big fan of the genre, but it just doesn't come close to Assante's Gotti nor Sizemore's Gotti. Travolta didn't do a bad job, but I missed some of the glitz and glamor of the celebrity gangster that Gotti actually was. The storyline with his son became far too long-winded, the Gotti crew received too little attention and depth, the rival families, too few sit-downs and talk about the day-to-day business. Who was the consiglieri here? It was like this was Big Neil. Still an important person in every family. I must say that I thought Stacey Keach was very solid as Neil. But overall I was a bit disappointed in this adaptation.

The 1996 version with Assante, Forsythe, Quinn is simply much better, the best Gotti film.

2/5 stars for me.

This is 112 minutes of praise song collage from a son to his father, but that son cannot tell, explain or reveal. The result is very disappointing, just a shame. With some background information about the Gotti family and their role within the Gambino crime family, it is understandable that this is the result. All brothers, and now also a number of grandchildren, are active in the family. The retired JR, made a film that might have said something relevant 18 years ago, but even that I wonder now.
