Eight o'Clock Walk plot
Taxi driver Thomas 'Tom' Leslie Banning is sent to an abandoned bombed-out site by an eight-year-old girl as an April Fool's Day joke. The girl is later found dead and appears to have been murdered. Tom is picked up by Scotland Yard for questioning and he is arrested not much later as the prime suspect. Jill, Tom's wife, is convinced her husband is innocent. Jill wins the sympathy of attorney Peter Tanner. Peter agrees to defend her husband. Peter will have to face his father, lawyer Geoffrey Tanner, who represents the Public Prosecution Service in court. Things are looking bad for Tom, especially because of the testimony of one Horace Clifford. But then outside the courthouse, Peter spots Clifford handing out candy to a young girl.
