When FBI agent Zack Stewart is shot and killed while on duty, his friend and colleague John Ripley takes over three cases from him. The first concerns a fugitive mobster who murdered a gas station attendant, the second a gang of car thieves and the third an unknown who demands ten thousand dollars from a young widow in exchange for the life of her small daughter. John is convinced that if he solves all three cases, he will also discover the identity of his friend's murderer.
