Franz Blum is sentenced to five years behind bars after a bank robbery. At first he finds it difficult in the harsh world of the prison system. Especially the ruthless fellow prisoner Walter Kuul is after him. But Blum sees through the power play, adopts the customs and fights for his place in the pecking order.
