A Child of Mystery plot

In New York's Little Italy, Carlotta's life is controlled by a Black Hand group, who keep her away from her lover, Tom. The Black Handers also control the life of the prominent Judge Andrews, having kidnapped his granddaughter years earlier, after the death of Andrews' daughter. They recently agreed to return her in exchange for a large ransom.
