In the beginning, this film with its humor is way too 'over the top'. Just too fake. After that, the film becomes too 'sweet' again. So for me the movie didn't really work. It's not a bad movie. However, it is highly valued here.

Nice film about a father who can no longer pay the school fees for his children and therefore starts home schooling. The film looks easy, mainly because of the pleasant setting, the fine soundtrack and cast. Some nice dialogues, but it never really gets sharp. Some scenes are a bit too sentimental.

Zach Braff's second film as director starts very funny, but quickly gets bogged down in a fairly melancholic story, almost sentimental. The sf interludes don't do the movie any favors in my eyes either. Not nearly as enjoyable as Braff's debut Garden State.
