Average.

Ben Stiller is casually redoing Meet the Parents. This time with a rich tech guy (always nice when you can pull Elon Musk out of the closet as a cameo), a foul-mouthed Franco and Cranston as de Niro's replacement. That dad and future son-in-law don't really like each other will probably come as no surprise.

This time with a bit more bawdy, some drug jokes and a lot of techy stuff, because nerds are hip. Some of the jokes are quite nice, the movie is fast paced and smart enough to keep the drama on the back burner. No endless sadness towards the end or ambiguities that are only resolved at the very end. That's already a plus.

But also a lot of the jokes aren't much fun and it just feels a bit been there, done that, just updated for '17 peeps. Reasonable as a snack, but it's not really great.

2.5*

Thought the chemistry and the antics between father and the future son-in-law were successful, sometimes very bad about it ... but still fun. Both actors create a nice light-hearted atmosphere. At the end the group Kiss also stops by. 6/10

The screenwriter of Meet The Parents turned the tables for this romantic comedy. Ned [Bryan Cranston] and Barb Fleming [Megan Mullally] meet her boyfriend Laird Mayhew [James Franco], an extremely idiosyncratic and socially inept multimillionaire, through a disastrous Skype conversation with their daughter Stephanie [Zoey Deutch]. Christmas sets the stage for the first meeting, where Ned in particular quickly concludes that Laird is totally unsuitable for his daughter. A lot of comical vicissitudes and misunderstandings later, it all works out in the end. This may be predictable, but the four protagonists do an excellent job and there are plenty of successful moments, including a continuous joke around Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory).
