Viften plot

St. Croix, Danish West Indies, 1848. Anna and Petrine are unlikely friends. Because although they are both women of color, their life circumstances are very different - Anna is free and owns the enslaved Petrine. Tempers flare in Anna's mansion as rumors of an uprising spread. Which side are Anna and Petrine really on?

A "satire" about slavery. Are we on thin ice here or is it subtle enough? I say the latter. It is good that there is no direct violence by white bodies against black bodies (that has been depicted often enough and we now know), but it is certainly implied and present. Maybe that makes it even more shocking. The absurdity in the film turns out not to be that absurd, because we are of course dealing with an absurd and, above all, horrible history. Pictures occasionally remind you as a viewer of the facts. There were extremely painful moments such as lining people up with a statue of a monkey first, then two black women, and at the very front a white man to represent evolution, where it should also be clear that "free" black woman, who tries so hard to fit in with the 'whites', but is also "just" a black woman (n-word).
