Tsukigami plot

Hikoshiro Bessho is a hard-working samurai, but as a second son, he will inherit nothing. Through a marriage he enters another samurai family, but is sent away by jealous relatives. He turns to his brother and his wife, but finds little support. He meets an old friend who has since risen, according to his own words, through prayer at a shrine. In a drunken stupor, Hiroshiro turns to a dilapidated memorial and appears to attract the attention of the Gods of Poverty, Plague and Death.
