"Dealing with the mob is always a gamble."
The simple, old shoe shiner of Sicilian descent Gino (Don Ameche) receives a curious offer from the mafia. When he pleads guilty in a murder case and serves his prison term, his dream is fulfilled: A fishing boat in Sicily. During his last days in freedom, he is guarded by a restless young mobster Jerry (Joe Mantegna), who is full of discontent. Gino, on the other hand, takes life as it comes, even when he is mistakenly mistaken for an important mob boss.
