The Switch plot

"The most unexpected comedy ever conceived."

Best friends Wallie (Bateman) and Kassie (Aniston) are both reluctant bachelors. One day, Kassie decides she's waited long enough for the right man to start a family, and, much to the mildly neurotic Wallie's dismay, starts looking for a suitable sperm donor. After finding the perfect candidate in the very attractive Roland (Wilson), Kassie throws a party in honor of the actual insemination. However, this is where an unplanned last-minute mix-up takes place, which only comes to light 7 years later when Wally and Kassie's cute, but slightly neurotic son meet…

Well, nothing special, and Jennifer Aniston is playing Jennifer Aniston again, and Patrick Wilson is only appearing to play in order to be portrayed as sexy, then dumb, and finally kicked out of the movie without his character being there very much. is to blame. Unfortunately, Juliette Lewis also plays Juliette Lewis again, but luckily Jeff Goldblum also plays Jeff Goldblum again, and especially Jason Bateman is a fresh and endearing appearance who has some nice scenes with Aniston's son. (I can't imagine anyone starting this movie without knowing what the title refers to beforehand, but I'll try to write this piece spoiler-free anyway). I understand that he is a fairly well-known actor in America, and perhaps also for Dutch television viewers, but I haven't seen him that often myself, so his persona here is still fresh and disarming for me. His presence is therefore the main reason why I am actually enthusiastic about this film despite everything – I don't fully understand how that is possible, such a bland story should not be for me, how can I do this like it? Or should I… I might be like a baby… STOP!

“I… um, hijacked your pregnancy.”

Nice rom-com without too much romance or humor. That sounds crazy, but The Switch is above all a film with its heart in the right place and nice actors who provide a pleasant viewing experience. I've seen Aniston better, but it's Bateman who convinces the entire film.

He starts out as a pessimistic manchild, but after the film jumps in time you see him grow. Especially the scenes between Bateman and the young Robinson are very strong and ensure that the film remains enjoyable. Because the rest of the film really has little to offer. Aniston and Bateman are a nice duo, but there is no real flame between them. Goldblum still has a nice supporting role, but for the rest... I think everyone can guess how this film ends.

The umpteenth "feel good" rom-com of a dubious level. With a Jennifer Aniston-on-the-botox in the lead, that's all. It's just that I also give the lady at home her films, otherwise I would of course never have seen this misfire.

The feel good is mostly irritation for me. The romantic part of the term romcom once again means nothing and there is certainly no question of a comedy? Aniston and Jason Bateman - who can really do better, but often made bad movie choices - do their thing, but Aniston can't act right so it's basically crying with the cap on the whole movie.

Although the movie has a good theme. A new and bold topic that is worth thinking about, but the film is weak in its structure and in the way it presents the concept. All the movie sequences are clichéd and predictable. I think the choice of comedy genre is due to the lack of courage of the creators.
