The Pursuit of Happiness plot
"THE BUNDLING HIT!"
At the start of the American Revolution in 1776, King George III of England and Grand Duke Friedrich II of Hesse-Kassel arrange for tens of thousands of men from Hesse to fight against the American insurgents. German violinist Max Christmann is recruited against his will. On arrival in America, however, Max finds a note from General Washington, promising 40 hectares of land to every Hesse citizen who joins the American insurgents. Impressed by the struggle for independence, Max deserts and hides in a barn of the Kirklands in Connecticut. He is discovered, but well treated and cared for by Aaron Kirkland's beautiful daughter Prudence. The jealous Thad Jennings, who is in love with Prudence, wants Max to be jailed.
