A film that comes nowhere near perfection, but what a wonderful feeling I get with these kinds of films. Likewise with this one.

The acting performances are sometimes to cry, especially the supporting roles. Stiles and Mably are doing well and are well attuned to each other. Other than that, nothing really special about the cast.

The story is of course sweet, predictable and doesn't really turn out great. I thought the ending was okay, not the expected marriage. All's well that ends well, of course/. The film is easy to watch and it never really gets boring. The beginning may be a bit on the long side, but I had actually forgotten this until writing this review.

It is a typical girl movie that many boys/men will not enjoy, at most with their teenage daughter next to them. These kinds of films are really my guilty pleasure and will therefore rate them a little faster. Also in this case my vote will be a bit higher than it actually deserves, namely 3.5*.

I was planning to watch the other three parts this week, but I'm starting to doubt that. Stiles will be replaced in part 2 and actually she was really the strongest in this film.

“Denmark isn't ready for a Queen like me.”

“Well then they'll have to be. Because I am.”

Sympathetic video. Julia Stiles is always good at these kinds of roles, and she makes sure that The Prince & Me remains enjoyable. Because the male lead (Luke Mably) is once again drowsy and has a painful lack of charisma. For a teen rom-com, I also missed some funny supporting characters, and there's a lack of humor anyway. It's the well-known 'girl meets guy' story, but it's nothing more.

The story is very reminiscent of Coming to America, but with young people. The film has an American view of the monarchy with a royal family closer to Disney than European royalty, no room for protocols and the idea that kings also have something to say politically. Paige is a mix between the only (real) princesses that I think America knows: Diana and Grace Kelly (Meghan Markle was still unknown at the time). By the way, Paige sees a movie clip on TV with Grace Kelly at the beginning of the film.

The story is somewhat related to clichés. In America, the literal prince on the white horse will radiate even more charm than in Europe, where royalty is viewed from a different perspective. Other than that, it's mostly a teen romcom which isn't bad in itself. But there's little else to do. Still enjoyed it even better than I could remember from a previous viewing.
