The Playboy of the Western World plot
Young Christy Mahon arrives in County Mayo, Ireland and reveals to everyone that he killed his worthless father. The way he tells his story makes Christy something of a local hero. The men are impressed and the women are attracted to him, including Pegeen, the daughter of an innkeeper. But then Christy's father shows up, just injured. The people of County Mayo then see him as a liar and a coward. In an effort to rebuild his reputation as a tough boy and regain Pegeen's love, Christy decides to attack his father again.
