"Inside Sherman Klump, a party animal is about to break out."
dr. Sherman Klump is a kind, brilliant genetics professor who is quite overweight. When the beautiful Carla Purty (Jada Pinkett) arrives to teach college, Sherman immediately falls madly in love and desperately searches for ways to bring his 200-pound body back to generally accepted standards and win her heart. He takes a sip of his experimental fat-reducing serum and transforms into Buddy Love, a smooth toned Don Juan. Unfortunately, both the serum and Buddy Love turn out to be uncontrollable and Sherman is shocked to find that he has created a monster. Can Sherman stop his hideous alter ego before it's too late, or will Buddy win the battle?

jeez.
I've seen the original with Lewis, but this film doesn't really have much to do with that. This is mainly a full-blooded Murphy comedy where he can take on multiple roles/types. I think that's why the film has some fame.
At least it won't be for the funny humor. Completely corny, predictable and easy humor. The film is mostly loud and busy, but not funny for a moment. Not even a small smile or some timid chuckle on my part. It's been a really long time since I've seen something so painful.
Murphy is also not good enough to carry an entire movie himself, the actors around him are also hanging on and the comedy writers were on strike I think. The film is only 90 minutes long, but every minute of it is one too long. This was really sad.

Truly a Murphy vehicle. As a fat professor I still like him, but when he is more himself, the film becomes especially annoying. Also as and with his family, those are the lesser pieces. The girl is nice, the effect isn't too bad and the film isn't boring either. The pace is even remarkably good, because at one point the film was already finished. But then again, without Murphy's antics, there would have been something more in this. Although that part with the comedian was funny. 2.5*.
