The Missionary plot
In 1905, after 10 years of missionary work in Africa, the priest Charles Fortescue is recalled to England. There he receives a new assignment from his bishop. He has to work among the London prostitutes. Charles hopes his fiancée will object and thus provide him with an excuse to refuse the assignment. But she is so naive that she has no idea what that work entails and instead of disapproval she encourages him.
