The Fool's Mate plot

Fred and Holly meet in London's Nag's Head pub. They have been dating for a while and are at a crossroads in their relationship. However, Fred has met another woman he is in love with and tries to break up with Holly. This one thinks Fred is about to propose to her and she does everything she can to keep the conversation from getting serious as she wants to keep things casual. But the pub's rules require them to play a mandatory game of chess, which could reveal the truth.
